Swans is an avant-garde no wave band formed in 1982 in New York, and its founder is multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Michael Gira. When asked why the name Swans, he said that they are magnificent and beautiful creatures, but with a very difficult temperament. In more than four decades of existence, they experimented with various genres: noise through post punk and industrial to post rock. Their most common themes are religion, power, sex and death in their signature dark and apocalyptic style. The band has released 16 albums so far, while the aforementioned “Birthing” will be released by Mute and Young God Records, owned by Michael Gira. The band members are Phil Puleo, Kristof Hahn, Dana Schechter, Phil Puleo, Chrisopher Pravdica, Larry Mullins, Norman Westberg and of course the spiritus movens of the whole story Michael Gira.

Since 2001, musician, violinist, and composer Jessica Moss has been a deep and powerful presence in contemporary experimental music. First as the main driving force behind Thee Silver Mt. Zion until the legendary chamber-punk band went on hiatus in 2016, and then as a solo artist, with four critically acclaimed albums released on Montreal-based Constellation Records. She has also been a sought-after collaborator on a variety of projects, working with a wide range of names, including the legendary Patti Smith. Her latest releases “Galaxy Heart” and “Phosphenes” are ambitious summaries of her work to date: deeply emotional, expansive musical experiences that encompass post-classical music, ambient metal, Eastern European folklore, drone, a-bom, and a host of other traditions somewhere in between.
