Tolminator Metal Fest IV unfolded like a metal‑as‑fuck summer pilgrimage, where the thunder of riffs met the turquoise glow of the Soča River, creating a setting so astonishing it felt almost unreal. The valley’s natural amphitheatre amplified every note, and thousands of metalheads—sunburned, smiling, beer‑in‑hand—moved through the festival grounds with the kind of camaraderie that only happens when heavy music and breathtaking nature collide. From the first day onward, the Tolminator Stage dominated the landscape, rising like a monument of steel against the river’s shimmering calm, and every evening felt like a ritual carved into the mountains themselves.

Day 1 set the tone with an eruption of energy as Bleed From Within delivered a performance that blended surgical precision with raw emotional fire, their riffs slicing through the warm valley air while the crowd roared in perfect unison. The Scottish powerhouse fed off the audience’s enthusiasm, turning the astonishing beauty of the festival venue into a battleground of groove‑driven catharsis. The band proved their reputation as infallible showmen and raised the atmosphere to an unprecedented high. Later, In Flames elevated the night into something transcendent, their melodic death metal anthems echoing across the water like hymns of a Gothenburg summer. The band’s mastery of atmosphere, melody and crowd uplifting created a sense of unity that felt almost spiritual and fans responded with overwhelming joy, singing every chorus as if the river itself were joining in. Their performance was simply pure beauty and they masterfully performed a set that simply delighted us and absolutely no one could remain indifferent! Great performances were also given by: Deafheaven, Moscow Death Brigade, Employed to Serve and Todomal.

Day 2 brought a surge of old‑school adrenaline when Sacred Reich unleashed socially charged thrash that resonated deeply with the festival’s fiercely engaged audience. Their groove‑laden attack felt tailor‑made for Tolmin’s open air, and the crowd responded with relentless movement and applause. Heaven Shall Burn followed with a performance that felt like a seismic shockwave—an explosive fusion of political fury, melodic precision and overwhelming emotional weight that had the entire valley vibrating. As night fell, Wolves in the Throne Room transformed the riverside into a mystical dreamscape, their atmospheric black metal weaving nature, ritual and hypnotic repetition into a set that felt inseparable from the surrounding forests and mystical mountains. Other bands that we don’t have time to describe in detail were, among others: Elder, Sanguisugabogg and Heretoir.

By Day 3, the festival had fully settled into its rhythm of chaos and beauty, beginning with Psychonaut 4, whose depressive black metal carved out a raw, vulnerable space that captivated listeners with its emotional honesty. The day started extremely depressingly with heavy rain, but Psychonaut 4 managed to turn the extreme darkness that arose in the middle of the day- into an unprecedented celebration of the beautiful and comforting melancholy that the band provides, accompanied by the inevitable mud circle pit! Infected Rain countered with a modern metal storm led by Lena Scissorhands, whose charisma and vocal dynamism ignited the valley in a blaze of melodic aggression and nu‑metal swagger. The legendary Agnostic Front then delivered a masterclass in hardcore history, channeling decades of New York grit into a performance that felt both timeless and fiercely present. Closing the night, Satyricon summoned icy Norwegian darkness, their ritualistic black‑metal authority radiating through every riff and rhythm, leaving the audience stunned by the sheer force of their presence. It’s simply impossible to single out the highlight of their concert, as there are countless songs that we can call legendary or fans favorite. The entire performance knocked us off our feet and the rest of the world stopped existing for a moment! It became irrelevant whether a tent was waiting for me or if the wind had blown it down, or what was waiting for me when I got home: the performance of Satyricon became the center of the universe, in which everything else became irrelevant! Other bands that absolutely lifted the atmosphere and got the audience extremely excited were: Municipal Waste and Nervosa.

Day 4 erupted with Hatebreed, who turned the valley into a battlefield of positive aggression, uniting thousands in a cathartic explosion of hardcore power. Spectral Wound followed with a feral, frostbitten black‑metal assault that showcased the raw intensity of Canada’s new wave of extreme music, earning immense respect from the crowd for their uncompromising delivery. The festival’s final blow came from Deicide, whose blasphemous death‑metal barrage—led by Glen Benton’s unmistakable presence—felt like a ritual of pure sonic damnation, closing Tolminator with overwhelming force and ecstatic audience feedback. The full diversity of our experiences and the glow of the atmosphere at the festival was accomplished by: 1000mods, Immolation and Lucifer’s Child and many others!
Throughout all four days, the Beach Stage added midday chaos with slam, grind and crossover madness from acts like Brat, Vulvodynia, Master and Raised by Owls, turning the riverbank into a sun‑drenched arena of underground extremity. The DIY Stage kept the energy alive during changeovers, offering raw, intimate performances from bands such as Dummy Toys, Urban Instinct, Mutilated Judge and GUB, ensuring there was never a quiet moment anywhere on the grounds. Numerous bands provided us with unforgettable entertainment with absolutely crazy combinations of musical styles, skateboarding acrobatics, fire performers and all the other unique performers that made these gigs great.Together, these stages created a complete ecosystem of heavy music, from global headliners to underground heroes, all embraced by a crowd whose mood remained ecstatic, friendly and united from sunrise yoga to late‑night Disco Tropikana.
Tolminator IV wasn’t just a festival—it was a metal holiday carved into one of Europe’s most beautiful landscapes, where the Soča river shimmered like liquid turquoise beneath the weight of riffs, screams and laughter. The atmosphere was extreme yet peaceful, chaotic yet communal, proving once again why Tolminator has become a pilgrimage site for metalheads seeking both brutality and beauty in equal measure.
