Scott “Malefic” Conner – Sve
Xasthur is a dark, atmospheric solo project by American musician Scott “Malefic” Conner, who from 1995 to 2010 defined depressive black metal with his dense, lo-fi textures and distinct emotional weight. After the breakup in 2010 and the Nocturnal Poisoning project, Malefic brought back the Xasthur name in 2015 in a completely new form – as an acoustic neofolk project that carries the same darkness, but through a completely different sound language. From the beginning, Xasthur was conceived as a one-man band, although session musicians have occasionally participated over the years. Xasthur has become one of the most influential representatives of American depressive black metal, known for its extremely atmospheric, dark and claustrophobic aesthetics, as well as for its characteristic lo-fi production. We can observe him in three parts, the first is when he did early material that he recorded in a home studio with a rather unstable line-up of musicians where lo-fi was what came out of the speakers and when we were younger, of course it was more “true”. There he defined what comes to mind now when we say the band’s name, but Xasthur only got its “flourish” at the beginning of the millennium when he released a pair of genre-essential albums, the first named Nocturnal Poisoning from 2002, the second Telepathic with the Deceased from 2004, and the third Subliminal Genocide from 2006. All three albums are masterpieces of depressive black metal. The third phase is where it is now. After all the edges of possible depression, he still holds the guitar in his hands and almost dies.
The interesting thing is that this will be his second visit to Zagreb, because in 2004 Sunn O))) took him on tour as a vocalist when they first came to our place. 22 years after.

Lukas Häger – Guitar
Lukas Häger is specific for his combination of blues/folk/ambient approach, improvisation and extremely atmospheric guitar texture. His style is minimalist, but very expressive, often resembling soundscapes and less like traditional guitar solo parts. His solo music often feels modal — he uses a steady tone with very few harmonic changes, which creates a meditative and hypnotic atmosphere. This can also be seen in his improvisations on live releases, where many pieces rest on a single mode or drone instead of a classic progression. He uses empty fifths, quarter intervals and occasional dissonances to create that uneasy ambience around him. Rich dynamics and tonal control suggest that he usually plays practically without effects, and uses saturation more as a texture than as a main effect. In his material, he focuses on narration through melodies and drones.
