You’ll struggle a bit until you learn how to pronounce Thy Catafalque correctly, but we’re sure you’ll have no problem enjoying a concert performance by this Hungarian band that can most easily be classified under the avant-garde metal agenda. Thy Catafalque is fronted by Tamás Kátai, was founded in 1998, but only started performing in 2021. Thy Catafalque’s style combines metal, folk, and electronic influences, and this crazy mix is most evident at concerts where complex studio compositions are given new arrangements.
Tamás Kátai describes his music as a fusion of black metal, ethereal synthesizers, traditional instruments and unexpected melodies. Thy Catafalque are coming to Močvar as part of the promotion of their latest album “XII: A szépőszés álmok észés jönnek”. This album is very significant for bad, but also for Kátai himself because the album is tied to the past, and the recording of the album involved 20-some guest musicians, including well-known names from the Hungarian metal scene and beyond.

Behind the name Bong-Ra is Jason Köhnen, a Dutch producer and composer known for his long-standing work at the intersection of experimental electronics, breakcore and extreme metal. Active since the late 90s, Bong-Ra has developed a distinctive sound over the years that combines fragmented rhythms, distorted textures and elements of heavy music.
In the more recent phase of his career, Bong-Ra performs as a three-piece band, with an emphasis on live performance that combines electronic production and band dynamics. The repertoire includes material from recent releases, as well as reinterpretations of older works in a new concert format.
Instead of further description, we will use one quote that best sublimates what Bong-Ra concerts look like:
“Bong-Ra destroyed every preconceived notion on stage about what live electronic and metal music could be — the sound was a dense mass of distorted rhythms, industrial textures and metal thumps that pulsated like an organic force. The audience experienced a set that was as intense as it was conceptually intriguing, where polyrhythmic structures, aggressive vocals and brutal beats created the feeling of being immersed in a sonic cyclone with no way out. Every element of the sound seemed to collide and merge in a common chaos, at once nervous and hypnotic, providing a concert experience that is remembered long after the lights come up.”
