From the dark depths of the San Francisco Bay Area, Possessed is back! They are the ones who forged the first blades of Death Metal in the fires of chaos, giving their name to a genre that would change the world of extreme music forever. This time they are coming to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their first album called “Seven Churches”, which is actually the first death metal album ever. They were formed back in 1982 in San Francisco at the same time as bands like Slayer and Metallica were starting their careers in the city, and they became the band that first mentioned the term DEATH METAL. In 1984, a three-track demo called “Death metal” was released, and singer Jeff holds the title of the one who invented the term. A year later, “Seven Churches” was released (1985) and everything started with that album. If you haven’t listened to that album, and you like extreme music, it’s time to right that wrong because Seven Churches is an album that transcended the genre. The album that made bands turn in more extreme directions. We are sure that during your life, following extreme music, you have encountered this legendary cover at least a dozen times. If you have missed it, don’t mention it to anyone and quickly right the wrong. Possessed is a band that many early bands of the genre have cited as a great inspiration. Bands that come to mind are Death, Sepultura, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Gorguts, Obituary, Vader, Autopsy, etc. The list goes on and on.

Corpse Grinder (Death Metal, Varaždin)

This vocal-instrumental band from Varaždin has been active since early 1992, which places them among the longest-standing guardians of old school death metal in the region. They only have a demo of First Grinding behind them, which defines a sound full of raw aggression and technical riffs. Over the years, they have become a symbol of resistance to trends, while remaining true to underground aesthetics and uncompromising speed. Interestingly, they are one of the oldest active death metal bands in the region. While Possessed was a distant cry from San Francisco, Corpse Grinder brought that same darkness to the basements and clubs of Varaždin.

Serpentslain is a Zadar-based death metal band founded in 2005 that plays technically refined and slightly more melodic death metal. Fast rhythms, blast beats and deep growls, but also virtuoso bass guitar parts and dark and melancholic melodies set them apart from the classic death metal mold. After an early EP and a long break, in 2020 they released their acclaimed debut album “Age of Verdict”. In 2024, they released the EP Cognitive Dissonance and with that they are coming to visit us!

They come from Varaždin and play a combination of occult black/thrash metal. The last time we had the opportunity to host them was at the Diocletian concert. They have one release behind them, the album “Pogani spjevi”. Despite their short tenure, they managed to profile themselves as one of the most aggressive and active new bands of the Varaždin underground scene.
