After a fantastic performance in 2024 at Močvara, Nytt Land returns to the same venue to promote their eleventh studio album with eight songs, “Aba Khan”. It was released at the end of February, so the concert on May 10th will be a great opportunity to hear what’s new from this unusual Siberian duo. Nytt Land creates ritual music inspired by shamanism, old Nordic texts and traditions of Siberian peoples, combining ancient instruments, throat singing and an atmosphere that invokes the spirits of the tundra and taiga, as the Zagreb audience has already seen for themselves. A limited contingent of early bird tickets priced at 20 euros are available until March 16th or while supplies last via the Hangtime website. The pre-sale price is 24 euros, while on the day of the concert, if any remain, they will cost 28 euros. Physical tickets will soon be available at the Dirty Old Shop. Nytt Land was formed in 2013 in the city of Kalachinsk (Omsk region), more than 4,700 kilometers from Zagreb, and the whole story was started by the married couple Nataliya and Anatoly Pakhalenko. In addition to the dark neo-pagan atmosphere they create, they are also characterized by throat singing and playing on handmade traditional instruments such as kantele and talharpa, which is certainly an additional reason why this unusual ceremony is worth attending. The band says that they are inspired by the sounds of the Siberian landscape, and in their music they also use recorded raven sounds and other ambient sounds from the forest, which is why some describe their music as a “hallucinogenic walk through the tundra”. Lyrically, they often rely on Norse mythology, especially on the collection of 38 poems “Elder (Poetic) Edda”, one of the most important sources of the Norse mythological tradition. Last time they were in Močvara promoting “Torem”, and in the meantime they have released two more albums: “Songs of the Shaman” (2025) and the aforementioned “Aba Khan”, so it can be concluded that the band is in great creative and concert momentum. See you on May 10th in Močvara, it would be a sin to miss it. Hangtime is organizing Nytt Land’s concert on May 21st at Belgrade’s Zappa Barca.
