One of the most important and influential black metal bands of all time, Sweden’s Marduk, is returning to Zagreb! After tearing up the Boogaloo venue last time, these masters of extreme metal will perform on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Vintage Industrial Bar, where they will stage a ceremony befitting their stature for the local crowd. Local band Defiant will appear as special guests! Presale tickets are priced at €29, while tickets on the day of the concert—if any remain—will cost €35. Marduk is one of the biggest names in black metal—something even the birds on the branches know by now. Their musical style invariably incorporates a dash of death metal; while they have occasionally introduced a more melodic note here and there, they would quickly revert to relentless, pounding intensity (note: listen to *Panzer Division Marduk* on an empty stomach). They named themselves after a Babylonian deity and formed in 1990 in Norrköping, Sweden. Morgan Steinmeyer Håkansson is the driving force behind the whole endeavor, fueled by a very simple mission: to form the most blasphemous band the world had ever seen. It is hard to argue that he didn’t succeed. Because, well—Marduk.
From the very beginning, Marduk aimed exclusively for the extreme. While others sought a balance between aggression and melody, they decided that melody could wait. Albums such as *Heaven Shall Burn… When We Are Gathered*, *Nightwing*, *World Funeral*, and—in particular—the aforementioned *Panzer Division Marduk* have long held the status of essential listening for anyone seriously delving into the world of black metal. Their trademark has always been breakneck-speed songs, war themes, and anti-religious motifs; given the state of the world around us, they certainly do not lack inspiration. Over the course of their career, they have released 15 studio albums, and the impact they have had on the European and global black metal scenes is almost impossible to overstate.
Alongside Morgan—better known by the nickname Evil—the core of the current lineup consists of vocalist Mortuus (Daniel Rostén, also the founder of the brilliant Funeral Mist) and drummer Bloodhammer. Defiant is a death metal band from Požega, formed in 2005. While their first two releases featured melodic death metal, subsequent releases and lineup changes saw them incorporate a significant dose of black metal into their sound. They have five albums under their belt, and for this occasion, they will place greater emphasis on their latest release, *Mammon Mantra*, which saw the light of day last year. It features guest appearances by, among others, Tony Dolan from the legendary band Venom Inc. The band members are: Kris (guitar), T.K. (vocals), Dominik Blagec (drums), and Julijana (bass).
