One of the most original bands of the modern extreme metal scene, the Ukrainian 1914, is coming to Croatia for the first time! The band, which has gained cult status among extreme music fans with its unique blend of black, death and doom metal and authentic World War I themes, will perform on Monday, September 28, 2026 at the Vintage Industrial Bar. Their songs do not talk about war through fiction, but are based on real battles, historical documents and testimonies of soldiers, which is why each of their albums is a kind of musical chronicle of this global conflict. Early bird tickets at a price of 25 euros are available via the Hangtime website. After the expiration of this contingent, the pre-sale price will be 28 euros, while on the day of the concert, if any remain, tickets will cost 32 euros. Physical tickets will soon be available at the Dirty Old Shop.
The band 1914 was founded in 2014 in Lviv, Ukraine, symbolically on the centennial of the start of World War I. From the very beginning, they built a recognizable identity based on the themes of the Great War, trench warfare, historical events and soldiers’ fates, which is why they stand out from most bands on the extreme metal scene. They released their debut album “Eschatology of War” in 2015, and gained wider international attention with the release of “The Blind Leading the Blind” in 2018, which was reissued by Napalm Records in 2019. The next album “Where Fear and Weapons Meet” in 2021 was their first full-length for Napalm Records and further solidified their status as one of the most recognizable European bands of the genre. Despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the band continued to create and perform, which is why they often stand out as one of the strong voices of the contemporary Ukrainian metal scene. Their fourth studio album “Viribus Unitis”, released in late 2025 on Napalm Records, takes a more emotional look at the First World War, exploring the themes of togetherness, survival and the effects of war on soldiers. The album retains its recognizable sound, but also brings a wider dynamic range, more melody and orchestral elements, and guest appearances by Aaron Stainthorpe (My Dying Bride, High Parasite), Christopher Scott (Precious Death) and Jérôme Reuter (Rome).
The concert at the Vintage Industrial Bar will be their first appearance in Zagreb and an opportunity for the local audience to experience live one of the strongest conceptual bands of today’s extreme metal. Get your tickets in time, see you on September 28th!
