Returning to Zagreb after a long absence, Mastodon transformed Tvornica Kulture into a cathedral of progressive heavy metal on 28 June 2026, delivering a performance that combined crushing intensity with remarkable musical sophistication. The evening opened with local favourites Stonebride, whose signature blend of stoner, sludge and psychedelic rock proved to be the ideal introduction to the night’s sonic journey. Playing with confidence and conviction, the Zagreb quartet won over the packed venue with massive riffs, hypnotic grooves and an authentic stage presence that deservedly earned loud applause.

Mastodon took the stage to sounds of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” (which was played in the background) before launching into “Tread Lightly” instantly igniting an atmosphere of excitement that never faded. Drawing material from across their acclaimed catalogue, the band treated fans to highlights including “The Motherload”, “Crystal Skull”, “Black Tongue”, “Megalodon”, “I Am Ahab”, “More Than I Could Chew” and the breathtaking “Crack the Skye”. Later in the evening, “All the Heavy Lifting”, “Spectrelight” and “Steambreather” maintained the momentum before the unmistakable opening riff of “Blood and Thunder” brought the concert to a triumphant close. Every performance showcased the extraordinary chemistry between the musicians, whose flawless interplay, intricate guitar work, thunderous drumming and powerful vocal delivery reaffirmed why Mastodon continue to rank among the most innovative bands in modern metal.

The front rows were firmly occupied by fans who arrived from Greece, Hungary and Serbia and flawlessly maintained a high level of enthusiasm throughout the entire concert! The Zagreb audience matched the band’s energy from the opening moments, filling the venue with constant cheers, passionate singalongs and relentless headbanging. Even the sweltering summer temperatures inside Tvornica Kulture failed to diminish the enthusiasm, as the crowd responded to every song with overwhelming appreciation and infectious energy. The excellent sound production ensured that every musical detail, from the heaviest riffs to the band’s layered vocal harmonies, was reproduced with impressive clarity. Throughout the night, the connection between performers and audience created an atmosphere that felt both intimate and electrifying, highlighting the unique appeal of live heavy music. Stonebride delivered a memorable opening performance, Mastodon exceeded the high expectations surrounding their return to Croatia, and together they produced an evening that will undoubtedly be remembered as one of Zagreb’s defining metal concerts of 2026.
